It's important to stabilize the sides of the quilt backing for quilting. Side Leader Grips work better than quilt clamps because most of the backing along the side of the quilt is held taught and is stable. After attaching the side grips to the backing, use a clip on the ribbon. An extra measure of stabilization is to place a yard stick under the ribbon (shown in photo). This is especially important when using IntelliQuilter automation to prevent the clip from dragging on the iQ machine motor.
